Ways to Donate
donor-advised fund (DAF)
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a centralized charitable account. It allows charitably-inclined individual, families and businesses to make tax-deductible charitable donations of cash, publicly-traded stock and in some case, certain illiquid assets, to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.

Legacy Giving
DONATION FROM AN IRA: If you are 70-1/2 or older, you can donate funds from an individual retirement account (IRA) to the Burlingame Library Foundation in what is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution. And if you've reached the age where you need to take required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRAs, these donations will count toward your RMDs and you can avoid paying taxes on the money by donating it to the Foundation.
CHARITABLE BEQUESTS: Designate a charitable bequest for the Burlingame Library Foundation in your will or living trust. Make a will at no cost using Freewill.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION: Name the Burlingame Library Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, life insurance policy or bank account. The balance of your retirement plan may be more valuable when donated to the Burlingame Library Foundation than to your heirs.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS: Provide an income for yourself or a loved one now, with the remainder assigned to the Burlingame Library Foundation.
Tribute gifts
You may contribute by designating a tribute gift In Memory Of or In Honor Of someone special. Living honorees (or the loved ones of honorees) receive special notification of your thoughtfulness.
Gifts of Appreciated Stock
You can donate stock to the Burlingame Library Foundation, get a deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock at the time of the transfer (its increased value), and avoid paying capital gains taxes on the appreciated value of the stock. And as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Foundation is also exempt from paying that capital gains tax.
