Around the Library

Have you Read the Rocks at the main branch?

On your next visit to the Burlingame Main Library, be sure to take a few moments to explore the bronze plaques that have been installed on rocks around the front of the building.

A joint venture of the Library Board of Trustees and the Foundation, the plaques are inscribed with inspiring excerpts from literary works, essays, and poetry. They were chosen from over a hundred submissions by library employees, Foundation Board members, and the Library Trustees.

The plaques, in their diversity, welcome patrons by demonstrating what a public library is all about: that through the books on its shelves and the many programs presented within its rooms, it invites us to transport ourselves and to enter into the lives of others, and in so doing, expand our knowledge of our community, our country, and our world. These words of wisdom that newly surround our library speak to the multiplicity of experiences that await all of us within its walls.
